The first probable case of H1N1 (swine) flu has been reported by Redfern Health Center.

A student who lives off campus exhibited mild flu symptoms and is recovering at home. The student is not enrolled in summer classes.

“It’s highly likely that there will be more cases on campus,” said George Clay, executive director of Redfern. “The vast majority of U.S. cases have been mild.”

To reduce the chance you will get the flu, the CDC recommends that you:

Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching surfaces that may be contaminated.

Avoid contact with people who may have been exposed to the flu.

Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze to keep from spreading the flu or other respiratory illnesses to others. You may have the flu before you exhibit symptoms.

Try to stay in good general health: get plenty of sleep, stay physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.

Seek medical attention if you experience early flu symptoms, including a sore throat, runny nose, congestion and sneezing.

You should seek accurate information about the illness from credible sources, including the CDC and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control .

I’ve been trying to focus as much as I can to do all my school stuff and pass these classes and so far it’s been going well. All-in-all I think I did really well in my classes. It was tough, but that’s life. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do right?

Well in about 1 week it will be Clemson’s May Graduation, which I will be working as one of the people that tells the graduates when to stand and where to sit. The best part about it is that Thursday night some of us are going to see Star Trek in IMAX at Mall of Georgia, which means that I won’t be getting back in until like 2am, then getting up at 6am for graduation stuffs, then getting up at 6am on Saturday to go to the beach for a week.

Anyways, that’s about all for my random post… I’ll be back later, gonna go relax for now

So now, let me paint a picture for you…
I’m surrounded by cars. The left lane is going about 5 mph faster than I am, the right lane about 5 mph slower, and I’m going somewhere between 70 and 80mph… all SUVs or cars.

Well about 5 minutes after getting back onto the road, the SUV infront of me runs over a piece of plywood and his back wheels throw it into the air… The best I can describe what I saw to you for the brief 5 seconds it was in the air before contacting my car is by showing you this:

Yeah, imagine Batman flying at you… horrifying, I know!

When the plywood hit, it was a few inches off the ground, standing up, and measuring around 2 1/2 ft tall, and 6/12 – 7ft wide. I even didn’t have time to hit my breaks before it hit though I might have, had the car in front of me  done something like, i dunno, hit his breaks upon seeing the possibility of hitting a GIANT PIECE OF WOOD in the road…

So I’ve hit the plywood, or it hit me, still trying to figure out which… and it disintegrates for the most part, except for what you will see in a bit. The cars behind me all hit their brakes to avoid any debris themselves which gave me a good opening to get off the interstate and check the damage, and no one stops for us, not even the car that ran over the plywood.

I pull over onto the side of the road and make sure Whitney is ok, then I get out and check the car. This is what I find:

So I call FHP, my parents, and my insurance. Deal with all of that and end up one exit down the road to wait for my parents to come pick us up Pretty much end of story.

Bad news: The obvious is that my car is not drivable and has to be fixed. Other than the obvious body work, my radiator is busted. Anything else we will find out about sometime this week. So I’ll be without my car until the Summer sometime.
Good news: No one was hurt, Insurance is covering it.

From Clemson

Clemson University Police are investigating an accident involving several vehicles that occurred this morning on South Palmetto Boulevard, in front of Earle Hall.

As far as hearsay goes, some guy just walked into class and said that a Facilities van hit a car parked on the side of the road, igniting in flames… while that is a possibility, I am withholding judgement until Clemson realeases an official report…

By the way, the speed limit there is around 20 mph…

Friday night, Nate, Trevor and myself went to our cars before I went to the Semi-Formal with Em. We get there and everyone starts to leave, Trevor and Em are gone by now, and my car won’t start… So I call Nate and he comes back and we try to jump my car.

At this point I’m not sure what went wrong but we couldn’t get it to jump, so we go to check the connections. We are looking at them and the cables start smoking, then they start melting, then the clamps on my side of the car glow bright red and one catches on fire for a second. Nate and I are both freaking out, he uses a blanket to remove the cable from his ca, and they burn through the blanket in the process.

Once that is over with and we calm down, we notice some marks on my car and we thought that it had gotten so hot that it melted the clear-coat and ate through some of the paint, fortunately it hadn’t, so that was good.

Then this past weekend we played USC at USC and we barely won… it was ridiculous… I don’t want to talk about it… but the break was nice, even if I did have 2 tests when I got back… I enjoyed hanging out with Em and her Family, then I got to hang out with my family for about a day and a half, and that was nice.

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great break and that this week is going well!
Horray that the weekend is almost here!!

Something that is closer in the timeline, tomorrow night is the Gamma Sigma Sigma Semi-Formal and I’m looking forward to it!
